The same unique microclimatic conditions that give us quality cherries, also produce apples with color and flavor unmatched by any in the state of California. At Primavera, we handle the Royal Gala, Granny Smith, Fuji, Pink Lady and other varieties. Harvesting typically lasts from the middle of July through the end of October.

We have been able to enhance the shelf life of our apples by pre-cooling them immediately after harvesting. We harvest our fruit in plastic bins that are vented on all four sides. This enables us to effectively cool the apples in the center of the bin as well as those on the outside. After packing, forced-air cooling is used to quickly cool the fruit to 34° F (1.1°C), ensuring optimum freshness during long distance shipment.

But "consistent quality" is not enough at Primavera. Our commitment to uniform quality and rigid grade standards has dictated the necessity for packing several grades of each variety. We pack our apples to "well within" USDA quality levels, assuring our customers they are getting the best California apples available. Anywhere.

Optical sizing and grading

Apples are packaged on our new, state of the art packing line. Each apples is examined by an optical system, then mechanically sorted by size, color and appearance.

The fruit is also inspected by manual sorters to insure consistency in every box. From beginning to end, there are four levels of grading for apples either by optical or manual sorters. This four-tier system guarantees our customers that all our apples will be consistent in quality, box after box, season after season.
