Primaveras growers
are recognized not only for their experience, but also
for their proven ability to produce the largest,
sweetest, most colorful cherries available.Primavera quality starts in the roots of our growers trees. Successfully growing a mature, productive orchard from grafted rootstock requires knowledge that is often handed down from generation to generation. But, even after a tree has been coaxed from rootstock, it is still patiently tended for up to seven years before we harvest its first crop. This allows each tree to develop a superior root system and oversized trunk. A productive cherry tree must be capable of handling both the stress of uncertain spring weather, and the unremitting heat of summer without affecting the quality of the fruit that will carry our world renowned Prima Frutta label. Keeping It Cool All the growing experience in the world would be left on the tree if the fruit was not handled properly after harvest. Research studies have shown that the swift extraction of field heat has a direct correlation to the shelf life of cherries. Our processing methods and machinery were designed with this principle in mind. Upon arrival at the packing facility, the cherries are quickly cooled from 90° to 50° F (32° to 10° C). After processing, our cherries are then cooled to 32° F (0° C) with an in-line hydrocooler. This two-step system allows us to process cherries without damage, while maintaining the cool temperatures necessary for maintaining optimum freshness. |

| We inspect every load of
fruit before it reaches our packing lines. The fruit is
tested for firmness, size, field temperature, color and
flavor. These tests help us determine the grade of the
fruit, as well as the best method of packing. Primaveras hydrocoolers and state of the art packing equipment were built to meet our oversized specifications. This makes it possible for each cherry to be picked, cooled and packed in less than four hours. After packing, cherries are kept at a constant 30° F (-1.1°C). This reduces the respiration rate for the produce and helps prevent any degradation of quality prior to shipment. |
